Top of the class! Football is No.1 with WA schools

Football is the No.1 sport in WA schools.

That is the finding of the recently released 2023 Sporting Schools report, which has highlighted football as the preferred sport within schools in Western Australia.

Sporting Schools

The Football West team works closely with Football Australia to deliver the programs, and last year's results included:

  • 186 successful programs delivered in schools
  • Over 14,700 children involved
  • WA was one of two States where football rated No.1. The other was Queensland

Nationally, football ranked as the second most preferred sport in the Sporting Schools program.

These results not only reflect a growing passion for the sport, but highlights a generation of football enthusiasts inspired by the achievements of the CommBank Matildas and the Subway Socceroos.

The ascent of football from the fourth most in-demand sport for Sporting Schools in 2022 to second spot in 2023 signifies this growing popularity.
