Football West offers MiniRoos Certificate, Skills Training Certificate, Game Training Certificate and Goalkeeping Coaching courses.
MiniRoos Certificate Course
The Miniroos Certificate, which uses short, game-based sessions to introduce football to newcomers in an inclusive way, kicked off on February 18. The two-hour course, designed for people who coach kids aged four to nine years, is fully practical and encourages the coach to develop practices that are safe, fun an enjoyable.
The nation-wide program puts an emphasis on natural development, being active, making life-long friends and potentially unearthing the next generation of Socceroos or Matildas. No coaching but organising FUN football exercises is the key to helping players build a love for the game.
Another highlight of the course is that the coaches are exposed to basic rules of the game as well as tips and hints on building a football culture in a completely practical setting.
The Certificate, previously known as the Football West Grassroots Course, was recently renamed to fall in line with new Football Federation Australia sponsorships.

Skill Training Certificate – Skill Acquisition Phase
This course is aimed at coaches training players aged 9-13.
In the Skill Acquisition Phase, the coach focuses on assisting players to build technical skills.
The course is conducted over seven hours, is fully practical and deals with the development of the four functional game skills, being the first touch, striking the ball, running with the ball and one-versus-one.
These four core skills make up 95 percent of the actions of outfield players during a game. It is critical to train these actions repeatedly so that players develop the ability to perform them more effectively during a game.
On completion of the course, coaches will be asked to complete an online self-assessment form within two weeks of the course finishing. Once this has been completed a certificate will be issued.
