Jambinu side head to Queensland for 2022 First Nations Indigenous Football Cup
The Football West Jambinu side flew out of Perth this morning to compete at the 2022 First Nations Indigenous Football Cup.
The 13-woman squad and coaches will go up against teams from around Australia in North Lakes, Queensland, between 3-5 November.
This is the first time since 2019 that the side has been able to travel to the event because of the pandemic.
The players were presented with their shirts by Football West General Manager – Football Perry Ielati at Swan United’s Swan Italian Club on Sunday.
Geraldton Sporting Aboriginal Corporation Executive Officer Adrian Bartlett, who is also the joint team manager, and Community Bank Geraldton Branch Manager Jody Bevan spoke at the presentation. Mr Bevan’s branch is a sponsor of the team.
Also present was Michael Spratt, who performed Welcome to Country.
Mr Ielati said: “After missing out on the past two years due to Covid restrictions, there is a great deal of excitement among the squad. This is a rare opportunity for female First Nations players to display their talent against each other and our team is looking forward to rising to the challenge and doing WA proud.”
