2024 Belt Up Amateur Premier Division Round One wrap

Champions Emerald FC began the 2024 Belt Up Amateur season with a 3-2 win over Premier Division newcomers Maccabi.

Two goals after the break from Andrew Wood proved decisive for Emerald, whose first-half opener came via Stephen Kinsella. Dion Berman and Abel Thomas-hy got the goals for Maccabi, who were promoted from Division One in 2023.

A double by Stefan Hill early in the second half gave Night Series winners Wembley Downs a 2-0 victory at South Perth United, while the team they defeated in the final earlier this month, Jaguar FC, beat North Beach 2-1. The goals at Herb Graham Recreation Centre were all scored before half-time, Ben Reynolds netting for North Beach before two goals in a minute by Conor O’Driscoll and Kenel Mouithys turned the game in Jags’ favour.

Morley Windmills were another side to come from behind and win. Morley, who dropped down from the State League last year, found themselves a goal down inside 60 seconds against Kingsley Westside thanks to Louis Cheetham’s effort. Ali Gholami soon had Windmills on terms and Shane Burke scored what proved to be the winner later in the half.

A Kyle Jackson brace helped North Perth United to a 4-1 home win against Peel United. Barry Boggan and Oliver Bradley got the others for North Perth, while Alfie Birmingham was on target for Peel.

Game of the day came at Frye Park where Kelmscott Roos beat Joondalup United 4-3.

United struck first through James Ashford, before Roos stormed back to lead 3-1 with goals from Stephen Kirk, Ralph Mawire and Amos Doegolia Jnr. Ashford threw Joondalup a lifeline with his second, and they were on track for a point when Jordan Fazzari made it 3-3. But Jared Lange had the final word to win it for Kelmscott.
