2023 National Youth Championships for Boys: Gold Fields WA U15s start with win

The Gold Fields WA State Boys Under 15s today kicked off their 2023 National Youth Championships campaign with victory over NSW Metro White.

Goals from Perth Glory duo Alex Bolton and Max Naylor delivered a 2-1 win for head coach Gareth Naven’s side at Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood in Sydney.

With excessive heat forecast for Western Sydney over the next couple of days, organisers have been forced to rejig fixtures at Valentine Park.

That means the WA Boys Under 15s will face Northern Territory on Tuesday at 8.30am (5.30am WST), then Northern NSW at 6.45pm (3.45pm WST).

Meanwhile, the Gold Fields WA State Boys Under 16s went down 1-0 in their opening fixture to NSW Metro White.

The only goal came eight minutes into the second half, and was very unlucky on Robert Cook. The Glory keeper saved Meliwethu Nkomo’s penalty, only for the NSW Metro player to cleverly lift the rebound over his head and into the net.

Head coach Andy Ord and his team now turn their attention to Tuesday’s games against Northern Territory at 9.35am (6.35am WST) and Northern NSW 7.50pm (4.40pm WST).
