Men’s U19s reach National Futsal grand final

It was celebration time for the Gold Fields Men’s State U19s in Canberra on Thursday after they reached the grand final at the FFA National Futsal Championships.

Goals from Justin Tang Yan, Joshua Ban and Javier Ramirez helped the Black Swans defeat Football NSW Metro Lightning 3-1 in their Preliminary Final at the AIS Training Halls.

The WA side will face Football NSW Metro Thunder in Friday’s grand final (kick-off 1pm WST).

Thunder won the mini league with a 100% record from their four games and they are yet to concede a goal. However, they only edged out the Black Swans 1-0 when they met on Wednesday.

Football West Development Officer Garry Church, who is in Canberra with the nine Football West teams, said: “The Preliminary Final was a tight game all the way through but it was great that all of the WA teams were watching, getting behind the boys.

“The third goal was scored in the last 30 seconds but prior to that the game could have gone either way. Credit to coach Victor Brauner and the players for the way they have prepared in such a short time, it really was a tremendous performance.

“This is the first time we have taken an U19 side in the time I have been involved in Football West. Now for the final.”
