Day One: 2020 FFA National Futsal Championships

Luka Beretovac scored a hat-trick as the Gold Fields Boys Futsal U12s Black Swans began their campaign at the FFA National Futsal Championships with a 4-3 win over Capital Football in Pool B on Monday.

WA has two boys’ teams in the U12s competition in Canberra, with the Gold Swans going down 4-1 to Football NSW Metro Storm in Pool A.

The Boys U13s had two matches on Monday, winning the first 5-1 against Football SA Blue, Benjamin Michael netting twice, before going down 4-1 to Football NSW Country.

In the Boys U14s competition, the Black Swans lost 3-2 to Football SA Blue despite a double from Jason De Brito. The WA side then crashed 7-1 against Capital Football.

Football NSW Metro Lightning edged out the WA Boys U15s 5-3, Joshua Bosevski scoring twice for the Black Swans. The West Aussies were then handed a 10-2 thrashing by Football Queensland Metro.

The Gold Fields Boys U16s also lost twice on day one – 5-0 to Football NSW Country and 3-2 against Queensland Metro.

In a tight encounter, the Men’s U19s Blacks Swans lost 2-1 to Football NSW Metro Lightning. Michael Lino gave WA the lead, while keeper Nikita Tcherkashnev stood out for the Black Swans.

The Gold Fields Girl U13s began with a 6-3 defeat to Football SA, Amber Thomson Russell scoring two for WA. However, they showed tremendous spirit to follow this up with a 4-2 victory against Football NSW Country.

The WA Girls U15s had a tough opening day, beaten 6-0 by Capital Football and 11-1 by Football NSW Metro Thunder.

The action continues on Tuesday at four venues – Tuggeranong Southern Cross Stadium, ANU Sports Centre, Radford College and AIS Training Halls.
