Phoenix one point from back-to-back titles

South West Phoenix are on the verge of back to back Women’s State League titles after a solid performance at ECU Joondalup on Sunday.

Goals from Salli Howden-Woodland, Savannah Olsthoorn and Kai Prendegast gave Phoenix a 3-0 win at the Campus.

The result maintained the leaders’ three-point advantage over UWA Nedlands, over whom they have a game in hand. Which means a point this Sunday when they face ECU again will make the outcome of their last-round clash against UWA irrelevant.

UWA and Sorrento have given Phoenix a run for their money this season and both won their penultimate matches on the weekend.

Jacqueline Chiastra and Emily Dinsdale scored in UWA’s 2-0 home win over Armadale, while third-place Sorrento thrashed Stirling Macedonia 9-0 with captain Jodie Brough helping herself to five goals and Jayde Keogh a brace.

In the day’s other Round 20 fixture, Perth AFC defeated Mandurah City 1-0. Daisy Spill got the only goal.

Fremantle City (Black) celebrated their second successive Women’s Amateur League title triumph with a 2-1 win at Perth AFC.

Two goals from Jessica Mitchell inside the opening 11 minutes set them on their way and despite Soraia Fernandes pulling one back early in the second half, City took the three points.

Hamersley Rovers are second following their 3-2 home win over Ellenbrook United.

Rosa Morgan gave Ellenbrook the lead, before a Tara Lind strike and a Hayley Peck own goal put Hamersley in front at the break. Morga levelled early in the second half, only for Ella Kerman to win it for Rovers with a late penalty.

Game of the day saw Fremantle City (Maroon) beat UWA Nedlands 5-3, Kate Nolan scoring four for Freo and Alexandra Lyons getting two for UWA.
