Boys Skill Acquisition Program (SAP)

The objective of the Boys SAP is to provide a participation-based program that compliments existing club-based training. The program, delivered by qualified hand-selected staff, will teach participants functional game skills and provide them with the necessary technical tools to play the game at the highest possible level in years to come.

The desired outcome for the Boys SAP is that many players will learn the tools that may see them progress into the Boys TSP and WA State squads.

Training sessions in the SAP phase focus on developing the four core skills:

1. Striking the Ball- This includes all forms of striking the ball such as short/long passing, shooting and crossing.

2. First Touch- Controlling the ball with all allowed body parts.

3. 1v1- All moves, feints and accelerations to get past and away from an opponent..

4. Running with the Ball- At speed (with a lot of space) or ‘dribbling’ (in tight areas), this includes techniques for protecting the ball and changing direction.

Sessions are held each Saturday morning at Gibbney Reserve in Maylands throughout the school term.
