The Junior Match Official course is open to all aspiring referees aged 13+ who want to officiate in various levels of community football competitions in Western Australia.

Setting up your PlayFootball and etrainu access:

  • Use the link HERE to create a PlayFootball account, or log in to your existing account to register
  • Please wait for your registration confirmation email before you are able to use the etrainu learning platform HERE

Step 1:  Laws of the Game certificate

To become a referee in Australia, candidates must complete the FREE online Laws of the Game (LOTG) certificate by Football Australia. Please follow this link and complete the certificate.

Step 2:  Online learning modules (etrainu)

All students are required to complete four modules and a video quiz prior to attending the referee course. This can be found here (there is a $33 Football Australia fee); the modules required are:

  • Match Control
  • Positioning & Movement
  • Technical Concepts
  • Game Management

Once this is complete, you are eligible to enroll in an in-person course.

Step 3:  In-person course

Current courses open for registration:

 

The Junior Match Official total fee is $172 and includes the below, valued at $300+ if purchased individually:

  • Referee registration for the full 2026 season,
  • New Balance referee uniform,
  • Referee equipment (flags, whistle, cards)
  • In-person course.
