WA State Team squad to face Persebaya Surabaya
Men’s WA State Team head coach Ian Ferguson has named an initial 27-player squad for the prestigious international game against Indonesian professional outfit Persebaya Surabaya.
Named in Ferguson’s squad are former Persebaya and Perth Glory A-League defender Aryn Williams, now with Olympic Kingsway, Armadale striker Pieter Jacobsz, who won last year’s NPL Gold Medal and Golden Boot, and Bayswater City keeper Lewis Italiano, who played in the A-League with Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jets.
In all, the Scot has included seven players from NPL leaders Bayswater, six from champions Olympic, and three from Perth RedStar.

There are also five players from State League clubs, including Peter Pilkadaris, Franc Gamiz Quer and Sasa Njegic from Dianella White Eagles, where Ferguson is the current head coach. The others are Jeremie Mba of Gewlup Croatia and UWA Nedlands’ Jack Hilaire.
“This is a game I’m really looking forward to and I’ve no doubt the players are, too,” Ferguson said.
“I’ve selected a strong group of players, including some I admired from when I was in the NPL with Stirling.”
The game against the Indonesian Liga 1 side is at the Sam Kerr Football Centre on Wednesday 9 July and will be broadcast on national TV in Indonesia.
“This is great exposure for the boys and we will all want to put on a show," Ferguson said.
“We will be organising videos to look at their team, but we already know they will be pretty strong.”
The State team will have three training sessions together, with the squad to be trimmed to around 18 players.
