Master show from Hillarys and Bayswater

Hillarys FC and Bayswater City were the two clubs celebrating after the first night of Belt Up Cup finals at the State Football Centre on Friday.

First, Hillarys defeated Kingsley Westside 4-3 on penalties in the Belt Up Men's Masters Cup decider after an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Then Bayswater proved too strong for Spearwood Dalmatinac, running out 5-0 winners in the Belt Up Over 45s Masters Cup final.

Hillarys wasted no time in putting their stamp on the opening game, going ahead on five minutes when Anthony Jones got to the byline and crossed for James Boland to nod past Kevan Towers.

Kingsley thought they had equalised eight minutes later as Mark Magorian chested Simon King’s pass into his path before firing home. Unfortunately for Magorian, the assistant referee decided he was offside.

Sam Francis then fired over from close range after more good work from Magorian for Kingsley, who did get on terms 20 minutes from time. Ian Woolley charged down the right, put the ball across and Stuart Montgomery side-footed beyond Stephen Vanderdeyl for 1-1.

Two minutes later Hillarys regained the lead as Jones followed up to score from Towers’ save, before Francis made amends for his earlier miss a minute from time when he glanced home from 10 yards.

That took the match to penalties, where Hillarys scored their first four, while Kinglsey missed two from five.

The second game of the night ended up being a one-sided affair, with Bayswater City eventually running over Spearwood Dalmatinac in the Belt Up Over 45s Men's Masters Cup final.

Jason Colli broke the deadlock on 23 minutes when he was first to the ball after Spearwood keeper Craig Rourke had saved well from Victor Sikora.

Spearwood remained competitive, with Michael Petkovic leading the line, but it was Bayswater who carried the threat and they increased their lead early in the second half as Matt Sparrow slipped in Colli for his second.

With gaps opening up in the Spearwood defence, Sikora fed Sparrow to make it 3-0, before the roles were reversed and former Perth Glory man Sikora got himself on the scoresheet from Sparrow’s pass.

Five minutes from time Sparrow went himself, carrying the ball to the edge of the box before shooting into the top corner.
