Mandurah the early leaders in Hyundai Women's League Division One

Mandurah City are top of the Hyundai Women’s League Division One after the opening two rounds.

The Dolphins benefited from a forfeit against Sorrento FC first up, then enjoyed a 2-1 win at Perth AFC this weekend. Trailing to a Jemma Martin goal at the break, Mandurah replied with goals from Kym Wilson and Ava Paschkewitz.

The win saw Mandurah open a two-point gap over Subiaco and Fremantle City after the two sides played a 2-2 draw at Wauhop Park on Sunday. Subi, who beat reigning champions Hamersley Rovers 4-1 in Round One, made a lightning start as Amy Buchanan scored twice inside the opening six minutes to take her season tally to four.

Yet after half an hour the scores were level as Alice Vandermeiren and Rachael Oliver struck for Fremantle, who began the campaign with a 1-0 win at Perth AFC.

2024 champions Hamersley Rovers have lost their opening two fixtures as they followed up their loss to Subiaco with a 1-0 home defeat against Murdoch University Melville. Catie Major scored the goal from the penalty spot in the second half.

Sorrento moved on from their opening week forfeit loss to Mandurah by beating UWA Nedlands 3-1. Natalia Xavier (2) and Olivia Donaldson got the Gulls' goals, with UWA’s goal from Niamh Gustavin. Nedlands are on three points alongside Sorrento and MUM FC on the strength of their week one win at Murdoch.

  • As part of Football West's partnership with Hyundai Australia, we will highlight the leading scorers in the divisions of the Hyundai Women's League. This week it is Division One, where Subiaco's Amy Buchanan is out in front with four goals after braces in consecutive matches, against Hamersley Rovers and Fremantle City.

Ella Vulin is joint second on two thanks to her double from Round One against MUM FC, alongside Sorrento's Natalie Xavier who got two this weekend against UWA.
