Super Subi clip Eagles wings

Subiaco recorded a statement result on the opening weekend of the Men's State League Division One season as they won 5-1 at promoted Dianella White Eagles.

Former Balcatta and Rockingham City NPL coach Goran Stajic is at the helm at Rosalie Park and his side got off to a super start after six minutes. Higor Marcal Vitali's wicked set-piece was grabbed by the wind, deceiving goalkeeper Nemanja Jankovic and landing in the back of the net.

Dianella lost just once in the league in 2021, on the final day to Murdoch University Melville, but they found themselves two down on 22 minutes. Ben Davis swung in the cross and Matej Centrih was on hand to finish at the back post.

A Kieran Colwell own goal made it 3-0 just before half-time, but Dianella did respond at the start of the second half when Nik Talimdzioski turned home Harry Blunt's cross.

However, a quickfire pair of goals would end any possible hopes of a comeback. Jordan Allen-Rana drove into the area and found the bottom corner for Subi's fourth with Elliot Ireland's penalty moments later sealing proceedings.

Fremantle City also bagged five goals on opening day as Cameron Lord's side won 5-2 at home to UWA Nedlands.

Matt Sparrow struck from the penalty spot midway through the first half, but Sam Moffatt levelled on 34 minutes with a toe-poke into the top corner.

City went into the break ahead when Hamza Hina netted his first league goal for Fremantle before another new signing in Roberto Soares netted a brace to all but put the game out of UWA reach.

The former Inglewood and Armadale midfielder finished before the hour mark via a deflection before picking out the corner in a more assured manger with 22 minutes to play.

Ayouba Kanneh added a fifth when clean through on goal in the final five minutes and that completed a sizeable Round One win, despite Ivwanaji Simbile's late consolation.

Elsewhere, MUM FC built on their State League Night Series final win over Olympic Kingsway with a 3-2 opening day win at home to  Rockingham City.

Feisal Zaw curled home a spectacular opener against the team he played NPL football with in 2021, but that lead only lasted 10 minutes as Shaun Mukwevho's solo strike levelled matters.

Kai Jones scored from long range as he did on Night Series final night to restore MUM FC's lead and Taki Nicolaidis' side made it 3-1 early in the second half thanks to Taj Bingwa's header from a corner.

But Rockingham wouldn't lie down and former Bayswater youngster Mukwevho completed his brace when he outmuscled his marker and finished for his second of the match.

That would be the end of the scoring though as promoted MUM FC claimed another early season scalp in 2022.

Forrestfield also won at home as a goal in each gave them a 2-0 win over Joondalup United.

Former Gwelup assistant Richard Abrams replaced Graham Normanton in the off-season at Crazy Domains Stadium and his young, new-look side went in front thanks to Axel Richardson's pinpoint volley into the corner.

They had to wait until the 97th minute to seal the points, though, with skipper Denzel Tshuma arriving from midfield to finish Richardson's cross.

Finally in Division One, Tommy Amphlett marked his league debut for Olympic Kingsway in style with a late winner which gave David Tough's side a 1-0 win over Mandurah City.

Amphlett, who ended a long affiliation with ECU Joondalup at the end of last season, collected a pass and kept his cool before curling past Alfie Brincat.

One game was called off due to Covid cases with Western Knights' meeting with Quinns postponed until a later date.

In Division Two, there was goals galore at Morley Windmills, Curtin University and Carramar Shamrock Rovers as all three sides scored five times in handsome home wins.

Windmills led 1-0 at the break against Balga through an own goal. The visitors were  then reduced to 10 men on 53 minutes as Joaquin Connelly saw red, and Morley took advantage with four more goals including two from Callum Speed.

Curtin defeated promoted South West Phoenix 5-1 with four goals coming in the first half at Edinburgh Oval. Rovers also hit the ground running with Jamie Gibson's hat-trick helping Gerry McEwan's win their first game of the season 5-2 over Canning City.

Joondalup City were the day's other winners as they came from behind to defeat Wanneroo City on the road. Dion Berman had opened the scoring for Roos, but Jack Reilly and Ewan Fawcett answered for Brad Hayward's side.

Meanwhile Swan United and Kingsley FC shared the points after a 2-2 draw in a repeat of last season's inter-divisional playoff semi-final. Ashfield and Gosnells also both claimed a point in Round One as they played out a goalless draw.
