Two of Football West’s State sides were in action last night when they took on Perth Glory.
The Gold Fields Boys State 14s and 15s went up against Glory’s age-equivalent sides at Cockburn City’s Dalmatinac Park.
While Glory ran out narrow winners in both matches – 3-1 in the U14s and 2-1 in the U15s – there were plenty of encouraging signs from the WA representatives.
Football West Football Development Officer Gareth Naven, who missed the games because of work commitments in the Mid West, said: “I’ve spoken with the coaches and they were pleased with how the boys performed.
“It is encouraging to hear that they put into practice some of the stuff we have worked on at training.
“It was disappointing for all of us that the National Youth Championships in Coffs Harbour was cancelled because of Covid. But these games are an opportunity for the boys to represent the State team in what is still a talent identification scenario.”
Marley Reddy (Balcatta FC) scored the goal for the State U14s while Gabe Leo (Bayswater City Soccer Club) netted for the U15s.
The State teams will take on Glory again on Wednesday, 1 September at Wanneroo City.
Football West would like to acknowledge mining giant Gold Fields, which is the name sponsor of all of our State teams.
