Register now: Hyundai SAP for boys and girls aged 9-12

Football West is inviting players aged 9-12 to register for the Hyundai Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) training sessions.

The sessions, which are open to boys and girls, are not a trial; rather a chance for youngsters to enjoy the next steps of their development.

What is SAP?

SAP is a pathway program to help players aged 9-12 develop their skills and to provide them with the required technical tools to play the game. The aim of the Hyundai Skill Acquisition Phase is on the development of game-related functional skills focusing on the following four core skills:

- Striking the ball: this includes all forms of striking the ball such as short/long passing, shooting, and crossing

- First touch: controlling the ball with all allowed body parts

- One-v-one: all moves, feints and accelerations to get past and away from an opponent

Running with the ball: at speed (with a lot of space) or dribbling (in tight areas). This includes techniques for protecting the ball and changing direction.

The Skill Acquisition Phase forms part of the Football West male and female player pathway and complements the players’ club commitments. All players will experience more fun, more touches and more games.

How do I join?

The program will begin on Saturday 5 February and run each Saturday at Gibbney Reserve, Maylands, until to the end of September, in conjunction with the school terms.
