Phoenix, Maddington both win

South West Phoenix and Maddington White City have opened a three-point gap at the top of the Belt Up Amateur Premier Division following Sunday’s Round 15 matches.

Lee Stewart scored the winner five minutes from time as Phoenix beat North Perth United 1-0.

And Maddington won by a similar scoreline away at Kwinana United, Samir Ramos netting on 21 minutes.

The two frontrunners now have a bit of daylight between themselves and third-place Quinns, who could only draw 2-2 at home against Jaguar. Malek Domkoc scored two for Jaguar.

UWA Nedlands and Leeming Strikers also drew 2-2. Goals from Cameron Anderson and Justin Onek had Leeming ahead at the break following Timtaous Komi’s early opener for the home side. Walter Torres earned UWA a point with a second-half equaliser.

Bottom-of-the-table Hamersley Rovers missed out on only their second point of the season after they conceded a stoppage time winner away at Queens Park.

Leigh Bridger’s double for Queens Park had been cancelled out by Bankuei Manuer and Brandon Rector. But Kenny Young had the final word as Queens Park’s snatched a 3-2 win.

Comeback of the day came at Beldon Park where visitors Wembley Downs recovered from 2-0 down to beat Joondalup United 3-2.

Gareth Davies’ first-half effort and an Adam Giannasi penalty straight after half-time had United in the driving seat. But James Kilbee pulled one back, also from the spot, Kevin Punselie levelled and David Grose came up with an 85th-minute winner.
