Phoenix beat Sorrento in Women's State League

It was a full house of away wins in the Women’s State League Division One with South West Phoenix winning 2-1 at Sorrento in the day’s big game.

Lucy Darbyshire gave Phoenix an early lead, which was immediately cancelled out by Gulls skipper Jodie Brough. The winner came early in the second half from Maya Sutton.

Phoenix Brownlie and Talissa Hollis scored two each in ECU’s 7-0 defeat of Port Kennedy. Tinette Van Niekerk, Amy Buchanan and Anniekah Bourke got the others.

Soraia Fernandes, Elise Cleminson, Daisy Spill, Alexandria Dercksen were the scorers in Perth AFC’s 4-1 victory over Stirling Macedonia, while first-half goals from Coreena Whyte and Joanne Murray proved just enough as Armadale won 2-1 at Mandurah City.

Ashley Harling and Emily Dinsdale scored in the opening 20 minutes as UWA Nedlands defeated Gwelup Croatia 3-1. Rebecca Dudek notched the decisive third late on.

Results and table

In the Women’s Amateur League, leaders Fremantle City (Black) came out on top 2-1 in their intra-club clash with Fremantle City (Maroon). Lara Giuliani struck in the second half for the Fremantle (Black) side, before Kate Nolan levelled. The winner arrived on 65 minutes from Zoe Andrijich.

Curtin University are second following their 2-1 win at Northern Redbacks, Samara Riches grabbing the winning goal.

UWA Nedlands beat ECU Joondalup 5-1 to move to within a point of the third-place Jacks, while Tiah Raddon’s brace helped Forrestfield United to a 4-1 win over Balga.

Also in the goals was Rosa Morgan, who got two in Ellenbrook United’s 5-0 win against Perth AFC.
