Perth SC win Hyundai Women's State Cup in style

An outstanding second-half performance by Perth Soccer Club proved too much for Perth RedStar as the Azzurri ran out 4-1 winners in the Hyundai Women’s State Cup final this afternoon.

Perennial winners RedStar, looking to add the State Cup to the NPL league title and Night Series they have already pocketed, made the perfect start at the Sam Kerr Football Centre and went ahead on 16 minutes thanks to Olivia Wood’s superb half-volley from the edge of the box.

At that stage most observers would have backed RedStar to do what they normally do and take control.

Instead, it was Perth SC who stepped up their game and they levelled within two minutes when Ruby Marshall played a one-two with Daisy McAllister before slipping the ball under RedStar keeper Gabby Dal Busco.

Perth SC took the lead for the first time after 68 minutes. Charli Wainwright dribbled into the RedStar area then crossed for NPLW Golden Boot winner Ella Lincoln to stab the ball home.

Six minutes later, the Azzurri were well and truly in the driving seat as Sam Mathers’ corner from the left beat everyone and dropped into the net.

The excellent Waintwright completed the scoring in stoppage time in emphatic fashion, shooting low into the corner.

Baxter Thew received the Sandra Brentnall Medal for her Player of the Match display at the heart of the Azzurri defence.
