Kununurra's Kalyn is Best of the West

Football West’s Best of the West initiative unearths the local heroes who make football happen in WA and our latest winner ticks many boxes.

Kununurra Soccer Association president Kalyn Fletcher receives the award for November.

Kalyn has been a force of nature in striving to develop and grow football. Since she has taken the helm, player participation has doubled.

The players now have set teams and coaches, while those with aspirations to take their football further have greater opportunity to travel to Perth for competition.

Kalyn’s work has not gone unnoticed locally, either, and she was nominated for the Service to Sport Award at the East Kimberley Sport Awards

Association secretary Nadine Maher said: “She is an exceptional role model and we are so lucky to have her support.”

Best of the West: Who are your club's unsung heroes?

Football West Club Engagement Lead Abid Imam said: “Football has more volunteers than any other sport in the country. It is vital we recognise the people behind the scenes who lay the platform for others to enjoy the game in a safe, fun and inclusive environment.

“It is wonderful we can appreciate valuable contributions from individuals at regional associations such as Kununurra.”

Football West Female Football & Advocacy Manager Sarah du Plessis said: “From coaches to committee members, junior referees to canteen operators, volunteers are at the heart of every community club and its fantastic to acknowledge and commend the contribution of Kayln Fletcher, her tireless work year-round and impact she had at her association has been invaluable.”

Best of the West is now supported by The Computing Australia Group and Healthway’s Think Mental Health Campaign and shines a light on the outstanding people across the Western Australian football community.

The individual winner of each month’s Best of the West receives a $100 rebel Sport gift voucher, thanks to Healthway’s Think Mental Health Campaign. Each winner will be  nominated for the Volunteer of the Year award, where the winner’s club will receive a branding package from The Computing Australia Group worth $5,000.
