Frontrunners open gap with big wins

The top three in the Belt Up Amateur Premier Division have opened a gap on the rest of the field with big wins on the weekend.

Leaders South West Phoenix and Maddington White City are a point ahead of Quinns, who have played one game more.

Lee Stewart scored two for Phoenix as they defeated Jaguar 4-0. Corey Barclay and Kieran Quinn got the others.

Individual performance of the day came from Jose Zuniga, who scored all five of Maddington’s goals in their 5-1 win over Queens Park.

Quinns’ Ryan McCready was almost as prolific. He scored four times as the Jacks beat UWA Nedlands 4-0.

That loss saw UWA slip to fifth, with Kwinana United now fourth following their 3-0 victory against Wembley Downs. Aiman Kamarmohter, Jake Daley and Glen Smith scored United’s goals in the second half.

Bottom of the table Hamersley Rovers crashed 5-0 at home to North Perth United. Scott Wrightson, Javier Pineres Mestre, Simon El Chami, David Byrne and Alex Corner got the goals.

Hamersley are now four points behind second-bottom Joondalup United, who beat Leeming Strikers 3-1. An own goal from Curtis Wreglesworth had Strikers in front at the break but Joondalup hit back through Gareth Davies, Louis Cheetham and Adam Taylor.
