Football West Business Breakfast
Football West and the City of Canning yesterday jointly hosted a Business Breakfast at Maniana Park, Cannington, next to the site of the State Football Centre.
More than 120 people were present for the 7am start, representing local government, business, residents and other stakeholders.
Key speakers were Football West CEO Jamie Harnwell, City of Canning CEO Michael Littleton and Sister Kate’s Home Kids Aboriginal Corporation CEO Tjalaminu Mia.
Mr Harnwell informed the guests about what the State Football Centre will entail when it is up and running in time for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. He also spoke about Football West and the City of Canning collaboration and the benefit for the local community.
This was a theme picked up by Mr Littleton, who revealed the level of investment taking place in that area of the City of Canning and the opportunity for business to get involved.
Ms Mia shared her story of being a member of the Stolen Generation, her memories of growing up in the Queens Park area and the relationship local Aboriginal people have with the site.
Other guests included the City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall and Councillor Steve Parkinson, Football West Chair Sherif Andrawes, Deputy Chair Will Golsby and Directors Richard Marshall and Annette Tillbrook.
Mr Harnwell said: “Football West would like to thank all of the people and businesses who attended the Business Breakfast.
“This was a great opportunity to inform and listen, and what we took from it was the great enthusiasm from the local community for the State Football Centre.”
