Football West is delighted to reveal its first female football Legacy Ambassador.
Resource geologist Ivy Chen is one of four WA community leaders who will raise awareness of the initiatives set out in the Football West Legacy Plan.
Ivy has followed football since her days as a child in Malaysia. Now a director on a number of boards, including Football West, Football Futures Foundation and Multicultural Futures, she is excited about what this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup will mean for Western Australia.
She said: “I think that the Women’s World Cup will bring so many new people to Perth (who) are going to see us … who probably have never even thought to come here, and they’ll all learn about us.”
The Legacy Plan will focus on providing opportunities and enduring outcomes through the power of football.
These include:
PARTICIPATION – growing female participation through expanded community programs to achieve the aim of gender parity by 2027
COMMUNITY FACILITIES – building football through improved grassroots infrastructure to ensure equitable female facilities to meet surging demand
LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT – leading through capacity building in women’s leadership workshops, community activations and increased female representation in key roles
ASIAN ENGAGEMENT – investing in the female game by developing strong international relationships and delivering cultural and educational experiences with government and commercial partners
