ECU, Phoenix lead goal rush

There were a few one-sided matches in the Women’s State League Division One as leaders Sorrento and South West Phoenix maintained their 100% starts to the season.

Sorrento’s 3-1 victory at Armadale was one of the more routine results, Jacqueline Nellany, Jodie Brough and Jayde Keogh on target for the Gulls.

Second-place ECU Joondalup went to town against Gwelup Croatia, winning 9-0. Aimee Coghlan (3) and Talissa Hollis (2) led the way for the Jacks.

Champions Phoenix, who are third but with a game in hand, also went big as they defeated Stirling Macedonia 7-0. Lara Graham, Lucy Darbyshire and Salli Howden-Woodland scored two apiece.

And Mandurah City made sure they didn’t miss out, claiming a 5-0 win at Port Kennedy. City had five different scorers in their victory - Elizabeth Green, Melissa Spillman, Lauren Davidson and Amy Terrell had them four up at the break, while Natasha Hirani added another in the second half.

Elsewhere, Curtin University beat Ellenbrook United 3-1, Phoebe Eun, Samara RIches and Suria Priya Varatharaja the scorers, while Fremantle City (Maroon) won 1-0 at Forrestfield United.
