Berman hat-tricks help MUM FC survive scare

A hat-trick from Dion Berman helped Murdoch University Melville survive a Gosnells City fightback to reach the final of the Men’s State League Inter-Divisional Promotion Playoffs.

MUM FC will face the winners of the semi-final between Swan United and Kingsley Westside for a place in Division One next year. They meet in their second leg this afternoon at Swan Italian Club with Swan holding a 3-2 advantage (kick-off 3pm).

Gosnells had it all to do going into last night’s second leg at Walter Padbury Reserve, having lost 2-0 at Wormall Civil Stadium earlier this week. Yet within half-an-hour they had levelled matters through Aaron Coslani and Edward Wynne-Willson.

Berman made it 2-1 on the night and re-established MUM FC’s overall lead on 38 minutes, however before half-time Gosnells had struck again through Kai Jones’ own goal.

With the score 3-3 on aggregate at half-time, the tie was in the balance. On the hour, Berman got his second to make it 3-2 to Gosnells but 4-3 for MUM overall. The two sides then swapped goals, Berman completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot and Dylan White netting for Gosnells, as MUM FC ensured their passage to the final.
