Australia Cup: Bayswater hit 10, Inglewood through on penalties, Jackson hat-trick for Gulls

Six NPL clubs and two sides from State League Division One will make up the WA Preliminary quarter-finals of the Australia Cup.

Inglewood United Football Club needed penalties to get past Division One side Mandurah City FC following a 1-1 draw. Mandurah led at half-time through a goal credited as an own goal, before Inglewood saved themselves via Anthony Bafobusha's late penalty. And United's prowess from 12 yards told again in the shoot-out as they prevailed 4-3.

In contrast, Bayswater City Soccer Club went to town against Kingsley Westside Football Club Seniors, hammering the Division Two side 10-1 at Frank Drago Reserve. The outstanding Ndumba Makeche scored five and Fraser Dunlop three in City's romp. Gordon Smith and Konstantinos Sparta scored Baysie's others.

Cockburn City Soccer Club made no mistake in their game against first division Joondalup United Football Club, winning 4-2 at Wanneroo.

The Cockerels had the game in the bag by half-time, as goals from Daniel Santich, Justin Tang (2) and Jesse Lazzaro put them 4-0 ahead. United's goals came through a Ben Johns penalty and a late effort from James Oldroyd.

And a hat-trick inside the opening 27 minutes from Chris Jackson ensured Sorrento Football Club were not going to fall victim to an upset against Emerald FC at Ashfield.

The Gulls soon added a fourth through Alex Morgan, before Emerald gave themselves a sniff thanks to a double by Shane Flynn either side of the break. However the last Belt Up Amateur side left in the competition, who famously beat NPL Balcatta Etna FC in the previous round, were unable to close the gap further as they went down to a creditable 4-2 loss.

Division One side Western Knights Soccer Club reached the last eight with a 3-0 win over NPL Gwelup Croatia SC at E&D Litis Stadium. Noah Shamaki's opener and two from Dylan White saw Knights advance.

Stirling Macedonia FC also went through 3-0, overcoming Official Balga Soccer & Social Club. A Dejan Spaseski double and a goal from Michael Domfeh ensured the NPL outfit avoided any slip-up against Division Two Balga at Macedonia Park.

Armadale Soccer Club Inc. enjoyed a fine win away to fellow NPL team Perth SC. Abdul Osman and Angel Andres were the scorers for Armadale in their 2-1 triumph. Daniel Zivkovic got one back for the Azzurri.

In the other game, Murdoch University Melville Football Club of Division One edged second division Ashfield Sports Club 1-0 at Besteam Stadium. Adam Fields scored the decisive goal on 75 minutes.
