Football West launch Walking Football initiative

Football West’s inaugural Walking Football initiative was launched at the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre recently.

City of Belmont Mayor Phil Marks and Member for Belmont Glenys Godfrey MLA opened the event before participants enjoyed fun football activities and small-sided games.

The Walking Football initiative was launched to encourage less-active members of the community to get involved in team sport.

Football West Community Football and Game Development manager Jamie Harnwell said the pilot project was a success.

“It was great to see representatives from a number of clubs and agencies, as well as the general public get involved in the event,” he said.

“This form of football means that players, new to the game or those who thought their playing days were over, can now get involved at their own pace.

“Not only is it fun but it’s a great way to maintain physical activity.”

Football West hopes to roll out more Walking Football events across Perth in 2017.
