Trials for players born in 2004 and 2005 will start tomorrow at De Lacey Reserve , Maylands, while players born in 2001, 2002 and 2003 will begin their involvement on September 7.
Interested players were required to submit a form before the close of business on Wednesday. It is assumed that applicants will attend the age-appropriate trial, as listed below, without further notification.
Female applicants are not required to attend the sessions listed below and will be notified of trials for the girls’ Skill Acquisition Program at a later date. For further information on the girls’ SAP please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Boys who wish to trial as goalkeepers should attend the age-appropriate trial (see below) where they will be assessed by goalkeeper coach Pat Whelan.
Football West accredited coaches will be looking to identify players according to Football Federation Australia’s player selection criteria, which is based on proficiency in four main core skills - passing/striking the ball, first touch, running with the ball and one-versus-one. Coaches will also be looking at player understanding of positioning, communication and team work in game situations.
A designated number of Football West coaches will form a selection panel for each of the trial stages. Players who have been part of this year’s SAP will not attend trials, as SAP coaches are already aware of their capabilities.
Trial players should ensure they have boots, shin pads and sufficient water for the duration of the session, which will consist of short matches.
All players will be notified by email after each stage as to whether they are required to return for further trials. If you have not received notification by 5pm on the Thursday following your child’s trial, please contact email@example.com.
It is anticipated the squads will be finalised on or before October 31.
In 2013-14, SAP teams in under-12, 13 and 14 age groups will compete in the new National Premier Leagues competition as a result of a partnership between Football West and Perth Glory. The pathway will link the SAP and Football West’s National Training Centre (under-15, under-16 and under-18) to a Glory under-20 and open-aged NPL WA team. Teams of all ages from under-12 will play under the Glory banner in the NPL.
