Olyroos crash out of Rio contention

The Olyroos’ Rio Olympics hopes were dashed when they they were unable to beat Jordan early this morning in Qatar.

Aurelio Vidmar’s squad, which featured five WA players, was held to a 0-0 draw by Jordan, who claimed second spot in the group to progress to the quarter-finals.

The United Arab Emirates, who beat Australia 1-0 in the opening match, topped the group.

Australia’s only victory was a 2-0 success against Vietnam.

Captain Ryan Edwards (Partick Thistle), Cameron Burgess (Fulham), Scott Galloway (Melbourne Victory), Brandon O’Neill (Sydney FC) and Adam Taggart (Fulham) had been flying the flag for WA.
