Football West in asscociation with the FFA are currently rolling out the Small Sided Games initiative to 5-8 year old players within the regional areas. After successfel trips to Albany and Kalgoorlie the roadshow moves to Geraldton this weekend.
The Small Sided Games (SSG) 2008 roll out for 5-8year olds will be using the format in the hand book ( downloadable here). Football West have decided to begin the implementation regionally in 2008 and to Metro areas in 2009. There will be 2 variations of SSG pilotting in Metro Perth in 2008, one is an intra Club SSG - which is suitable for larger clubs who have the player numbers to run an in house Small Sided Games, which will be located North of the river and the other variationsuitable for smaller clubs is a club hub which will be located South of the river) - this variation will bring together 4 clubs from several suburbs based in the same location.
On March 2nd we will host a SSG come and Try Gala day at Gibbney Reserve, clubs in the Metro area will be invited along to come and try the new format this will be aimed at 5-8 age groups. The Regional SSG road show has been really well recieved at the visits to Albany in December and Kalgoorlie in January, with parents delighted with the fact that no children are left on the side lines. Football West would like to thank all the Regional Associations who have been very supportive and immensely helpful with the SSG roll out.
Further information will be posted on the web site within the next few weeks and clubs will be contacted.
