National Technical Director, interim Socceroo and Under 23 National Coach Rob Baan, who recently led the Olyroos to success in qualifying for the Beijing Olympics, held a coaching hub session at Inglewood United (Clipsal Stadium)  demonstrating the Small Sided Games (SSG) concept.

The on-field demonstration was followed by a formal presentation and Q&A session involving Rob Baan, Matt Bulkeley, Football Federation Australia (FFA) Head of Game Development, and FFA National Participation Manager John Boulos.

The Small Sided Games concept is designed to better meet the needs of children playing the game aged between five and twelve years with regard to their skills development. SSGs are employed in all Football West Development Clinics and provide participants with more touches, forward passes, opportunities to shoot, and more attacking scenarios than the traditional 11v11 game.

Rob has over 40 years of coaching experience, which has included stints with the Dutch national youth team and many leading Dutch clubs including Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven.  Rob will be working with members from the Football West Futsal Development Program and District Academy providing a unique opportunity for WA coaches from grassroots through to high performance to witness one of the finest technical coaches in action.

“Rob’s first session held in May was a huge success with over 200 coaches attending his Coaching Hub Program at UWA which involved members of the National Training Centre,” said Mr. Garry Chandler, CEO Football West.

“Rob’s background and experience in the game is phenomenal and I am sure all that attend will find the session extremely beneficial. The transition to Small Sided Games over the coming three years will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the way the game is coached and on the skill levels of our young players, and forms a key part in FFA’s recently launched National Development Plan,” continued Mr. Chandler.

Inglewood United’s home ground is located at Clipsal Stadium - Cnr Walter Road and Eighth Avenue, Inglewood. The session commences at 6.30pm.
