The 2007 Football West McInerney Ford Night Series competition bursts into life this Australia Day long weekend, with games across the metro area involving both Premier League and Division one clubs. The decision to take the game to the people will give spectators the chance to attend games at three venues across the metropolitan area.
It all starts on Saturday evening with games at two of the allocated venues.
At Alfred Skeet Oval, hosts Armadale meet Cockburn City at 8.30pm. It pit’s new Reds coach Billy Russell up against his former club Cockburn City, and it’s also a first game in charge of the Cockerels for former Perth Glory star Scott Miller. This is preceded by Dianella White Eagle and Ashfield Reserves (6.30pm) in the first division game. On the same night at the ECU Arena in Joondalup, new promoted Fremantle Spirit met Inglewood United (8.30pm), who will have Bobby Despotovski in charge for the first time. The early game at 6.30pm is the Division one clash between Ashfield and Olympic Kingsway.
On Sunday evening at 7.30pm, Alfred Skeet Oval is the venue again for Jamie Goodman’s Wanneroo City as they take on Ronnie Campbell’s Western Knights, the early game at 5.30pm is Southern Spirit SC against Canning City. The big game of the round takes place at Litis Stadium at 7.30pm, when 2006 league champions Sorrento take on night Series holders Perth SC, who have recruited strongly over the break. The earlier game at 5.30pm is Queens Park against Rockingham City.
There is plenty of football to watch over the long weekend, so get along and support your clubs at all three venues. Admission prices are $6 adults, $4 concessions and under 15’s are admitted free.
