JUNIOR P&D HEARING DECISION
CASE: 2006/2

HEARING:

Date:  14 June 2006
Name of Individual:
Name of Club/s: Fremantle United / Fremantle City

FIXTURE:

Competition:           15 Division 1
Date of Fixture:       21 May 2006
P&D DECISION:
Date Decision Notified: 22 June 2006
a)              10 minutes from scheduled match completion Fremantle City Assistant Coach ran onto the pitch in reaction to a serious injury sustained by a Fremantle City player.
b)              The Assistant Coach was not restrained or controlled by Fremantle City Officials present as he did so.
c)              The P&D Panel found that the match referee and the Assistant Coach had a brief heated verbal exchange before confrontation. The P&D Panel could not determine at what point or which individual was the first to react towards the other - in self defence or anticipation of move by other person. Neither individual struck the other and the referee (experienced and knowledged in crowd control) used crowd-control methods to restrain the pitch invader until others could escort this person from the pitch.
d)              There was insufficient clear evidence to establish whether a player had added a kick to the restrained individual. A warning is to be issued to a Fremantle United player to restrain his behaviour and observe the Codes of Fair Play or risk severe disciplinary measures.
e)              An effort by the restrained individual as he was being escorted from the pitch to engage the referee was thwarted by bystanders.
f)                The match was abandoned at that point and players shook hands and all parties left the venue otherwise incident-free.
g)              Fremantle City imposed a ban for the remainder of the season on the Assistant Coach and imposed a $500 suspended fine on the individual to guarantee his good behaviour for the remainder of the season.
h)              Fremantle City Assistant Coach admitted his guilt to the P&D Panel.
i)                The Club structure (Fremantle City and Beeliar Junior Soccer Club) placed on $1000 good behaviour bond to remain until the end of the 2006 season.
j)                 P&D Panel expresses serious concerns to Football West about the reporting and portrayal of this incident within the media.
