Football West are delighted to announce that steel manufacturer and home improvement supplies company Stratco have signed an agreement to sponsor the Western Australian Men’s State team for an annual match against South Australia to be called the Stratco Cup.

The agreement, which is for an initial term of two years, will see Western Australia take on South Australia in Adelaide for the Stratco Cup on Saturday October 11 at the Marsden Sports Complex, with the ‘croweaters’ making the journey West in 2009.

David Bodmer (Stratco State Manager) and Garry ChandlerThe WA State men’s team was resurrected in 2008 after an absence of more than five years, with the side coached by Robbie Dunn traveling to Indonesia where they narrowly lost to East Java u23’s 0-2.

Stratco WA State Manager David Bodmer is looking forward to seeing WA clash with their nearest state rivals.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce our sponsorship of Football West and the West Australian State team for the 2008 and 2009 Stratco Cup events”.

“Stratco WA has a long history of being actively involved in local community projects, and we are proud to be involved with Football West in sponsoring their elite men’s State team, and wish them all the best for the coming match against South Australia” he said.

Football West CEO Garry Chandler is excited that Stratco, a respected national company, is to be associated with the best of local football in WA and SA.

“Football West are delighted in securing Stratco as a State team partner” said Chandler.

“The Stratco Cup will hopefully be the first of many interstate matches and competitions for our elite men’s players and we are looking forward to the inaugural match versus South Australia in October”.

The re-establishment of the men’s State team has been a priority for Football West in 2008 and the next step to schedule regular fixtures with rival Australian states is now a reality thanks to the Football Federation South Australia.

“Football Federation South Australia is very pleased to begin a partnership with Football West” CEO Michael Carter said.

“Establishing an event where South Australia’s state team competes annually has been a priority for Football Federation South Australia. We look forward to hosting Western Australia on the 11th of October and returning the visit in 2009”.

Western Australian Men’s State team coach Robbie Dunn is once again in charge and will be pitting his side against the best from South Australia.

“I am really excited about the Stratco Cup and can't wait for the best of our local players to match their skills against our South Australian counterparts again” said Dunn.

“Western Australia has some exceptional talent and hopefully we can get our best players on the park against the ‘croweaters’ and show them, and everyone else just how good the talent is in the West”.

“I have been busy watching the local competition and have some new faces that I want to bring in and have a look at with the aim to select the best possible squad come October” he said.
