Small Sided Games Information Update PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 August 2008
Over the past three months Football West in conjunction with the Football Federation Australia have been touring local clubs throughout Perth providing information and demonstrations on the new format of games for junior players to be introduced in the 09 season.

This new format has been implemented to increase both the enjoyment and the skill levels of thousands of Australian children.

The information sessions are there to help educate and explain the reasons behind this program being implemented. Once armed with all of the facts parents and clubs alike have embraced the program, and their support has seen the numbers participating steadily grow.

Each session consists of a power point presentation, and a video presentation followed by some on the pitch demonstrations with local children. All of the information provided at these sessions explains the researched thought behind these games and the benefits to children participating as well as how Football West intends to implement these programs through the various age groups.

This format has already been implemented in some of the regional areas of Western Australia with great success; areas such as Albany 6-8 year olds, Kalgoorlie 6-8 year olds, and Geraldton 6-8 year olds. This structure has been well received in all these areas and the children are the beneficiaries.

Feedback at metro sessions has also been very positive once clubs have been presented with all the details the new formats have been well received.

The intention of Football West is to have the following formats operating throughout most of the state in the 2009 season.
