Click to read the Match of the Week previews for Inglewood United v Floreat Athena from the State League and Fremantle United v Hamersley in the Loans Cafe Amateur Premier.

State Premier League Match of the Week

Inglewood United host Floreat Athena in the Round 17 Match of the Week at Clipsal Stadium on Saturday.

The huge clash pits fourth placed Inglewood against second placed Floreat in a winner takes all battle that will go a long way to determining the race to be crowned league champions.

With both teams playing other top four sides Sorrento and Perth next weekend in Round 18, the stakes couldn’t be higher and defeat for either could spell the end of their title chances with only five rounds remaining.

Floreat have begun to show the sort of form in recent weeks that propelled them to the 2007 championship with their miserly defence led by Ante Kovacevic, however the big central defender will have to do without defensive partner Jovo Pavlovic who is suspended following a red card received against Stirling Lions last weekend.

The Inglewood side have surprised everyone but themselves in sitting near the summit for the majority of the season, with a blend of exciting youngsters such as James Sammut and Jamie Mitsopoulos blended in with the experience of former Perth Glory defender Shayne Pryce, as well as Jason Colli and Oliver Taseski.

It all promises to be a hugely anticipated clash between two of the form teams in the competition, so get down to the Clipsal Stadium on Saturday for the big match.

Loans Café Amateur Premier Match of the Week

It’s a battle of the top two at Hilton Park on Sunday as Fremantle United tackle Hamersley Rovers in the Loans Café Amateur Match of the Week.

United sit comfortably on top of the table, 12 points clear of Hamersley who have a game in hand, however recent form has seen the hosts drop points to give the chasing pack a glimmer of hope.

Hamersley will go all out to cause an upset and take the three points, knowing it is realistically their last chance to close the gap on United, but will also have one eye on their upcoming Soccer Pools Cup semi final match against Sorrento to be played on Wednesday night.
