The World Football Programme - Saturday July 19 PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 17 July 2008
By The World Football Programme

This week is another bumper show with guests speaking to us about what is happening in the local football scene. We start the show with our regular segment focussing on local coaching programmes and news. Tony, our school insider, will talk about the Glory Cup Primary Championships beginning next school term and the State School Girls, who will be participating in the national Championships in Sydney from 1st to 8th August.

Our resident Irishman, Eamon Duffy joins us by phone to review last weekends’ state league games and give us his views on the games taking place this Saturday. The local derby between Fremantle Spirit and Cockburn will be played at the iconic ground, Wauhop Park, for the first time in years. I’m sure football fans would be pleased to see semi-professional football being played there again.

Tanya Oxtoby, State Under 15 Coach will talk us through the week that was, the successful National Championships for both the Under 15 and under 17 girls State Teams.  We may be the first to bring you the All Star player list for the week.

Penny will give her wrap on last Sunday’s Women’s Premier League games, this week’s round of fixtures and a sampling of whats happening around the other leagues.

Marin Vlasich, Fremantle Spirit President gives us an insight into what has been going on at the club. It has been a difficult season for the Fremantle side, both on and off the pitch, in this their 30th anniversary year.

John O’Connell, who will be the MC on the Hall Of Fame Night July 26 will lead our talk with 2008 Inductees Gareth Naven (who we hope we can tear away from Glory training) and Luciana Colangelo (now Di Ennio).

Gareth as we all know was the long-serving Glory Captain and is the current Perth Glory Youth Team Coach. We’ll ask him when his squad will be selected and announced and his expectations for his team in the inaugural year.

Luciana played for over a decade with Morley Windmills and finished her career with our National Women’s League team, the Western Waves. Stay tuned for news on the Western Waves and the National League for 2008.

Glory had their Family Fun Day this week and the Hyundai A League starts next month. How are the Olyroos shaping up for the ‘Group of Death’ at the Beijing Olympics. What’s happening with the Matildas and Socceroos? We will also cover Asia, the major European and British clubs and leagues in what is the silly season for player transfers, where several big name and big money players are jockeying for the best deal and club before the commencement of the new league season. We thought the Peter Crouch saga was huge! There is none bigger than twice World Player of the Year, Ronaldino’s supposed move to Milan for 25 million Euros, subject to doctor’s medical examination. Now Manchester City have put in a bid for him for $25.5 million dollars. Francis Awaritefe  from SBS joins us on line for a chat about all things UK and European.

Thanks to the generous support of Radio Fremantle’s community sponsors the World Football Programme now runs every Saturday throughout the year! Tune in for all the news on all of the local, national and international competitions.  Join Programme Coordinator, Penny Tanner Hoath, with studio guests from the International Football Show, John O’Connell and host Tony Carvajal this Saturday, in the studio from 9am to 11am for another programme of THE WORLD GAME
