Mark Schwarzer visit to Perth.
Australia’s Number 1 goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer visited Perth earlier this month and took part in some coaching clinics organised by Football West with some of the players of the future participating. On June 23rd Mark Schwarzer was in Perth promoting his new book “Megs, Scarves and Sombreros” and meeting the young West Australian players of tomorrow.
He kicked off the day with a “Smarter than smoking” school clinic run by Football West at Gibbney reserve, Maylands. Over 100 children enjoyed an afternoon playing football and meeting with the Socceroo goalkeeper. Later in the evening Schwarzer was involved in the Football Federation’s new Small Sided Games demonstration at Perth soccer club.
Schwarzer was helping the FFA and Football West introduce the Small Sided Games to the football public and players who had never seen this form of the game before. Teams have been playing the Small sided games in a local club hub and they showed off their skills with the Australian keeper.
Small Sided Games have been introduced as they are the perfect format for players to develop close ball skills that will benefit them when they progress to the eleven-a-side game.
