Football West in conjunction with Football Federation Australia (FFA) will be holding a series of Small Sided Games (SSG) demonstrations over the following months at clubs throughout the metropolitan area. The SSG road show will be focusing on educating junior clubs in the use of SSG for children in the under 6-9 age bracket.
What are ‘small sided games’?
These are football games with fewer players competing on a smaller sized field. These are fun games that encourage players to have more contact with the ball because fewer players are playing in a smaller playing area. All ages can play “Small Sided Games”, but it has a definite developmental impact on younger football players.
Some of the benefits of Small Sided Games:
More touches of the ball
More shots on goal
Repeated decision making experience
Ball in play more often
More 1 v 1 attacking situations
Emphasis on player development
Easy to understand games
Clubs, coaches, team supervisors and parents play the most important role in creating the right environment for SSG. The emphasis of SSG is on participation and enjoyment and an associated removal of the current emphasis on the importance of winning.
Children are much more likely to enjoy their football playing experience, will be keen to play more often and are less likely to drop out of the game.
Football West and the FFA invite all clubs, coaches and parents to the SSG road shows to be held at the following venues.
