State team arrive in Surabaya PDF Print E-mail

WA arrive in Surabaya for Friendship Cup.

Western Australia’s men’s state football team arrived in Surabaya yesterday where they were met by a media throng in the lead up to their Friendship Cup clash with the East Java under 23 side. The Perth Glory will be arriving today prior to their two pre-season games in the region.

Coach Robbie Dunn is set to name an unchanged starting line up from the one that defeated Perth Glory 3-2 at E&D Litis stadium last week. This is in spite of midfielder Tommy Amphlett recovering from a slight strain that forced him to pull out of the game versus Perth Glory, and striker Garin Collins having recovered from two dislocated toes.

The only question mark remains over Scott Bulloch who was substituted early in Sorrento’s Soccer Pools Cup clash at the weekend with Forrestfield. “My coming off was more of a precaution as I was feeling a little twinge. I came off before any damage was done and it has responded well to physio' so I hope to start” the Two goal hero from last week stated.

This fixture that has been two years in the making with the Department of Sport and recreation to strengthen sporting ties with Australia’s Asian neighbours is the state team’s first international fixture for 4 years. The game to be played Deltras Stadium in Surabaya is expecting a crowd of between 5,000 and 10,000, as the local government has granted free entry to local residents.

The game will be broadcast live on 990am from 7.45pm.
