PREVIEW
After an opening round of upset’s in the Football West Premier Division, a number of clubs will be looking to kick start their 2008 campaign this week in Round Two.

Swan I.C. vs Floreat Athena

On Saturday last season’s Champions Floreat Athena will look to get back on track when they visit Francis Street to take on Swan IC (3pm). A surprising 1-2 defeat at Mandurah City wasn’t the start they were looking for and a visit to the Swan Valley will be difficult task. The Swans beat Cockburn City 3-1 on the opening day, with 17-year-old Alex Cocking on target in his league debut, and they hope to make it two straight against Michael Roki’s side.

Sorrento vs Armadale
Brad Hassell makes a return to Percy Doyle Reserve; the former Gulls midfielder takes his new side Armadale for a game against Steve Neville’s Sorrento (3pm) It was great start for the Gulls with a comprehensive 3-1 win against Fremantle Spirit last week, with new signing Stuart Montgomery opening his account for the club. Armadale were beaten by the same score line at home by Inglewood United with New Zealand import Shannon Daley on target, but Hassell will hope for an improved performance this week.

Western Knights vs ECU Joondalup

Western Knights, fresh from a great 1-0 away win at Stirling Lions, host ECU Joondalup at Nash Field (3pm)

Ronnie Campbell’s side will hope to build on their good start, and hope new Irish import Barry Devlin, who scored the winner on his debut last week, can continue his good start for the club. ECU came back from 0-2 down at half time last week to draw 2-2 with Perth SC, with Ian McMurray scoring the equaliser and Willie McNally will look to build on the point this week.

Inglewood United v Stirling Lions

Inglewood United who opened their season with a good 3-1 win at Armadale, entertains Stirling Lions at the Clipsal Stadium (3pm). New Coach Lee Bamber will be looking for his side to continue their good start, and with youngster James Summet, who was on target last week and along with Bobby Despotovsk, they will hope to consolidate top spot with a solid home performance against the Lions. Michael Lyons side was disappointing in their

0-1home loss against the Knights, but they hope to have Kevin Henderson and Marc Anthony available for the game.

Cockburn City v Fremantle Spirit

It’s a local derby at Dalmatinac Park on Saturday when Cockburn City hosts Fremantle Spirit (3pm).

New City Coach Mirko Jelicic will hope his side bounces back from their disappointing 1-3 loss at Swan IC last week. Johnny Mirco was on target last week and his partnership with Brother Michael will be crucial for the Cockerels.  The Spirit lost 1-3 at Sorrento last week, and Coach Marc Wingell will be looking for a marked improvement from his side. Callum Roberts, who scored last week will be a key in the game, but the loss of 2006 Gold Medalist Dale Wingell thorough injury is blow for the port side,

Perth SC vs  Mandurah City

Fresh from a famous victory against last seasons’ Champions Floreat Athena, Mandurah City face another tough test at Dorrien Gardens against Perth SC on Sunday (3pm). Stuart Currie’s side outplayed Athena, with Ryan McDarby and former Glory striker Stuart Young on target, and he will look for the same performance against a strong Perth side. Graham Normanton’s side throw away a two goal lead at ECU last week, with striker David Onoforo continued his goal scoring with a double. Perth will look to secure the points at home and get their season up and running.
